South Crest Reservoir
10 Mℓ Concrete Storage

Project overview
Construction of a 10Ml reinforced concrete potable water reservoir.
AFI Consult provided full multidisciplinary engineering services from feasibility through to construction supervision and commissioning, working in close coordination with the City of Ekurhuleni's bulk water department.
Scope of work
- Reservoir structural design — post-tensioned reinforced concrete
- Civil and earthworks engineering
- Mechanical and electrical inlet/outlet works
- Telemetry and SCADA integration
- Construction supervision and contract administration
Engineering challenges
The reservoir's location required careful geotechnical investigation and a custom foundation design to handle local ground conditions. The post-tensioned concrete approach was chosen to optimise wall thickness, watertightness and long-term durability.
Outcomes
Delivered on schedule in March 2021, within the R40M project budget. The reservoir contributes 10 Mℓ of additional bulk storage to the Ekurhuleni network, improving water security for surrounding communities.
